Releasing a product marks the end of an iteration of application development. If the project is date driven, allow time to “finish” the product. A release plan for the release is created. The release process and corresponding release plan differ depending on the type of product and whether it is for internal or external consumption. For externally released software products, marketing effort and sales collateral are often included. Internal systems require training and operations support. Each of these cases requires a different release plan.
